Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Hoag Concierge Medicine?

Hoag Concierge Medicine is a membership-based, tech-enabled alternative to traditional primary care.Built on the foundation of a personal doctor-patient relationship, Hoag Concierge Medicine includes board certified physicians, state-of-the-art fitness facilities, and degreed exercise and nutrition professionals, to keep you and your doctor focused on prevention.

Why is there a membership fee with Hoag Concierge Medicine?

Hoag Concierge Medicine is structured to allow physicians to do what they love and do best; deliver high-quality, personalized care and attention to their patients. To accomplish this most effectively, physicians and their teams need to be able to dedicate more time to each patient. Our physicians have significantly reduced patient panels enabling them to provide higher-touch service to their patients. In order to support this model, our patients pay a membership fee that is for non-medical services and is not covered by insurance.

Can I still use my medical insurance with Hoag Concierge Medicine?

Hoag Concierge Medicine accepts most PPO insurance plans which we can use to bill your office visits and procedures, just as your traditional health care provider currently does. You will continue to be responsible for your co-pays, deductibles and non-reimbursable fees as specified by your PPO insurance plan. Please contact us to determine which PPO plans we accept, we do not participate in any HMO plans.

Does Hoag Concierge Medicine accept Medicare?

Hoag Concierge Medicine does not currently accept Medicare. Similar to other non-Medicare providers, we can provide medical services to you on a fee-for-service basis. We are required by law to charge a fee for services rendered to Medicare patients. Any services provided at the request of Hoag Concierge Medicine that are rendered by Medicare providers (e.g. labs, imaging, specialisst, etc.) will be submitted and covered by Medicare based on your plan by the Medicare provider themselves.

Can I use my FSA or other individual health care account to cover the Hoag Concierge Medicine membership fee?

The membership fee may be reimbursable if you have an individual health care or flexible spending account (FSA). Please contact us if you have an FSA or other medical expense spending account and we can assist you in determining if your membership fee is reimbursable by your particular plan.

What should I do if I have an emergency on the weekend or after normal business hours?

Our physicians will be available for phone consultation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, there may be times when we will recommend utilizing the expert staff at Hoag Hospital’s Emergency Department, an affiliated Hoag urgent care, or an alternative medical facility if you are out of Orange County. We will always help to assure that you are well taken care of.
