Fitness is a personal journey. The activity that is a favorite to one person may not sound ideal to another. That’s why establishing a routine that excites and motivates you is essential to optimal health and sustained wellness.
While there are many different ways to get out and active, there are four key categories that are beneficial to everyone’s health. Because of different preferences and goals, some decide to only stick to one or two categories. This is limiting, however, to the full scope of health and wellness that can be achieved by incorporating something from each type of exercise.
Fitness is not synonymous with any one type of exercise. There are so many different ways to move and achieve your health goals, and we are here to help! Here are some of our tips for establishing a workout routine that will work for you.
- Know yourself. Do you like to work out in the morning before starting your day, over the lunch hour, or in the evening? Be realistic with your own schedule and designate a time you can stick to.
- Consider convenience. There are many at-home workouts, especially when it comes to exercise that requires no equipment. However, if you are incorporating weights or other equipment, choose a gym that is easy to get to, like Hoag Concierge Medicine’s on-site fitness facility. If you are exercising outdoors, find a spot that isn’t hard to access.
- What is your motivation? Does it energize you to hear words of encouragement from others in a group fitness setting, or do you prefer pushing yourself solo?
- Make it your own. You’ve heard that “variety is the spice of life.” Getting a fulfilling workout shouldn’t feel like another chore you have to cross off the list for the day. Mix it up to stay engaged, both physically and mentally.
